One famous seat, two more that start at the district edge
Bharat Survey is a survey company in Varanasi for campaigns, researchers, brands and development programmes. The city's Nagar Nigam elects 100 ward councillors, and the district's eight assembly segments vote in three Lok Sabha seats. We sample on both maps, brief interviewers for Hindi and Bhojpuri, and record each interview offline with GPS, time and consent.

The Varanasi seat covers the three city segments plus Rohaniya and Sevapuri. A district-wide sample over-counts Pindra, Ajagara and Shivpur, which vote elsewhere.
About one in five district residents gave Bhojpuri as mother tongue in 2011. Interviewers who speak it are sent to Sevapuri, Rohaniya and Pindra villages where it is the everyday language.

Respondents in a seat that draws frequent polling can be guarded. We test question wording for leading phrases and never name a party in the introduction.
City wards near the river are dense, lane-bound and full of visitors who are not local voters, so interviewers confirm residence before starting. The outer segments are the opposite: villages spread along roads, with long gaps between sample points. We plan both in one schedule, with walking routes in the old city and vehicle routes in the blocks.
Nagar Nigam surveys follow the 100 current wards. Because ten ward names changed in 2022, we match every sampled ward against the latest list before briefing teams.
Campaigns that need organisation after the research can use the booth management app Varanasi volunteers run offline to track booth tasks and turnout reports, without importing voter data.

Five: Rohaniya, Varanasi North, Varanasi South, Varanasi Cantt and Sevapuri, all inside Varanasi district. The district's other three segments vote elsewhere: Ajagara and Shivpur in Chandauli, and Pindra in Machhlishahr. A seat survey samples only the five.
100. The 2022 delimitation raised the count from 90 and changed ten ward names, and the May 2023 election was held on the new map. We check ward names and numbers against the current list before sampling, because older lists still circulate.
We staff for it. Census 2011 recorded Bhojpuri as the mother tongue of about 20% of Varanasi district, mostly outside the city. Questionnaires stay in Hindi, and Bhojpuri-speaking interviewers take village assignments where it helps respondents answer comfortably.
They can close roads and fill river-side wards with visitors. We check the local calendar when scheduling, avoid major bathing and festival days for city wards, and use those days for village fieldwork in the outer blocks instead.
