Three to six keypad questions, in the caller's language, for people who already agreed to hear from you

Bharat Survey designs and manages IVR survey India projects for brands, NGOs, public programmes and researchers who need a quick signal from many people by phone. A recorded voice asks a handful of questions and the respondent answers with the keypad. We write and record the script, work with a licensed telephony partner for calling, and analyse results alongside our field and phone interview data. We do not sell our own IVR platform.

  • Scripts written and recorded in Hindi and regional languages
  • Missed-call and consented outbound designs
  • Calling through a licensed telephony partner
  • Results compared with field or CATI data where needed

What IVR is good at

IVR reaches feature-phone users, works in any language you can record, and returns answers within hours. It also has the lowest attention span of any survey mode, so design discipline matters.

An IVR survey plays recorded questions and captures keypad answers: press 1 for yes, 2 for no, or a number from 1 to 5. That suits a narrow set of questions, such as whether a service was received, a satisfaction score, or a choice among three options. It does not suit open questions, long scales or anything that needs a respondent to think through a definition.

Response samples are self-selected. People who pick up and finish an automated call are not a random slice of the population, so we treat IVR results as a signal or a monitoring tool. Where a client needs representative estimates, we pair IVR with a smaller CATI or field sample to check the direction of results.

How we deliver it

Bharat Survey's version 1 software does not include an IVR or dialler module. We design the questionnaire, write and record scripts, manage consent and number sources with the client, and run calling through a licensed telephony partner named in the proposal. Data returns to us for cleaning, analysis and reporting.

Good IVR questions

  • Did you receive the service? 1 yes, 2 no
  • Rate it from 1 to 5
  • Which of three issues matters most?
  • Would you like a call back? 1 yes
Two designs that respect consent

Missed call survey

Respondent-initiated
People see a number on a poster, pack, bill or SMS they opted into, give a missed call, and receive an automated call back with the questions. Because the respondent starts the contact, consent is clear and call costs sit with the sponsor.

Outbound to consented lists

Sponsor-initiated
Calls go only to numbers where people agreed to be contacted for feedback, such as registered customers, programme beneficiaries or members. The sponsor confirms the consent basis in writing before calling.

Voice and language

Script
Scripts are recorded by native speakers in the language and dialect of the audience, with slow pacing and repeated options for older respondents.

Call-back to a human

Escalation
An optional last question offers a call back from a trained interviewer for complaints or detailed feedback, which our CATI team can handle.

Rules

Commercial voice calls in India are governed by TRAI's Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2018, as amended, which cover sender registration on the operators' DLT platforms, the number series that must be used for different call types, and consent. Rules were tightened again in 2025. Our telephony partner is responsible for registration and routing, and we confirm the classification of each campaign with them before calls begin.

That is also why we decline requests for ivr bulk calls to purchased or scraped lists, political voice blasts and anything designed to look like a personal call. Those requests carry regulatory risk for the sponsor and damage response quality for everyone else.

Before any call goes out

  • Consent basis documented
  • Sender registration confirmed by partner
  • Calling hours agreed
  • Opt-out option in the script
  • Data retention period set

Not the right fit if

  • You need representative population estimates from IVR alone
  • Your questionnaire needs more than six questions or open answers
  • You want to call lists without documented consent
  • You want political or promotional voice blasts

A good fit if

  • Quick satisfaction checks after a service
  • Beneficiary confirmation that a benefit was received
  • Feedback from feature-phone users in many languages
  • Missed-call campaigns on packs, posters or bills
FAQ

Straight answers to the questions people ask most about this topic.

What is an IVR survey?

It is an automated phone survey. A recorded voice asks short questions and the respondent answers by pressing keys. It suits three to six simple questions such as yes or no, a rating or a choice among a few options, and it works on basic feature phones.

Do you have your own IVR platform?

No. Our current software does not include IVR or dialling. We design and manage the survey and analysis, and calls are placed through a licensed telephony partner that we name in the proposal.

Are IVR survey results representative?

Usually not on their own, because the people who answer and finish automated calls are self-selected. We treat IVR as a fast signal and, when representative figures are needed, check results against a smaller CATI or field sample.

How is IVR survey pricing worked out?

Pricing is on quotation. It depends on the number of calls or completes, questionnaire length, languages to record, partner telephony charges and reporting depth. Share those and we will send a scoped proposal.
