Hill colonies, riverside wards and a multilingual city

Bharat Survey is a survey company in Guwahati for campaign teams, researchers, NGOs and brands who need field data from Assam's largest city. Guwahati's residents speak Assamese, Bengali, Hindi and several tribal languages, and neighbourhoods run from hill slopes to flood-prone low ground. We plan samples around both and record every interview with GPS and time on an offline Android app.

Political research

The 2023 delimitation renamed and redrew Guwahati's assembly segments, so older survey baselines rarely line up with today's boundaries.

Segment baselines rebuilt

Post-2023 boundaries
We sample on the current segments of Dispur, New Guwahati, Guwahati Central, Jalukbari and Dimoria, not the pre-2023 Gauhati East and West.

A seat that reaches Goalpara

The Guwahati seat now runs from the city's five segments out to Palasbari, Boko-Chaygaon, Chamaria, Dhudnoi and Goalpara West. Urban and rural segments need separate fieldwork plans and are reported apart.

Before you brief

Scope

  • City segments only, or the full Guwahati Lok Sabha seat
  • GMC wards or revenue circles
  • Language versions needed

Calendar

  • Rongali Bihu week in April
  • Ambubachi Mela crowds in June
  • Heavy-rain days from May to September

Not the right fit if

  • We do not claim a Guwahati office; field teams are deployed per project
  • No voter tracking or voter-list import
  • No outcome predictions

A good fit if

  • Survey agency guwahati clients can audit, with GPS on every record
  • Multilingual political and consumer research
  • Ward-level civic studies
FAQ

Straight answers to the questions people ask most about this topic.

Which assembly segments are in the Guwahati Lok Sabha seat now?

Under the Election Commission's August 2023 delimitation order, the seat has ten: Goalpara West, Dhudnoi, Chamaria, Boko-Chaygaon, Palasbari, Dispur, Dimoria, New Guwahati, Guwahati Central and Jalukbari. Only the last five are in the city area, so we plan urban and rural fieldwork separately.

Which languages do you use for Guwahati interviews?

Census 2011 shows Assamese, Bengali and Hindi as the three largest mother tongues in Kamrup Metropolitan, with Nepali, Boro and Karbi among others. We prepare questionnaires in the languages your sample needs and assign interviewers by neighbourhood.

How does the monsoon affect Guwahati fieldwork?

Heavy rain can waterlog low-lying roads within hours, while hill colonies become slow to climb. Supervisors check weather each morning, move teams to unaffected wards, and extend the field window rather than let quotas fill only from easy-to-reach areas.

Can you cover Guwahati Municipal Corporation wards individually?

Yes. We load the 60 GMC ward numbers into the app. Each interview is tagged to a ward with a GPS point, and anything recorded outside the assigned ward is flagged for review before it counts.
