Audience research for the shows, films and formats measurement panels cannot explain
Bharat Survey is a market research company for media and entertainment businesses: OTT platforms, regional channels, film producers, radio networks, publishers and event companies. Ratings tell you how many watched. We find out who they were, why they stayed or switched, and what a regional audience in a small town thinks of a trailer, through verified field interviews, cinema exits and content tests.

Much of India's viewing happens on a shared phone or a family television, in a language other than English. Online panels under-represent exactly those viewers.

Field survey services for Media and Entertainment in small towns
Viewers answer differently at home with family than alone outside a theatre. We choose the setting for the question.

Tests are small but carefully recruited, because a bad match between viewer and genre produces confident nonsense.

Our view on audience research
For subscription platforms, satisfaction studies work best with people who recently cancelled or did not renew, interviewed within weeks while reasons are clear: price, a show ending, a shared login, or poor dubbing. For cinemas and events, short exit interviews capture the experience before the audience disperses.
Where industry measurement already exists
Television audience ratings in India are produced by BARC India using a large panel of homes and audio watermarking. We do not produce ratings and our surveys are not a substitute for that currency. Our role is primary research that explains behaviour behind the numbers.
Questions churn interviews answer
- What triggered cancellation
- Which platform replaced it
- Was the login shared
- What would bring them back
- Price they consider fair
| Question | Method | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Will this trailer pull a regional audience? | Recruited content test | Screen by language and genre |
| Why are subscribers leaving? | Churned-user interviews | Needs consented user list |
| How was the film-going experience? | Cinema exit interviews | Short form, quick turnaround |
| What do small-town households watch? | Household field survey | Include shared devices |
Not the right fit if
- TV ratings or audience measurement currency
- Box office collection tracking
- Social media sentiment scraping
- Piracy monitoring
A good fit if
- Content and concept tests with recruited viewers
- Cinema and event exit interviews
- Regional and small-town audience research
- Subscriber churn studies
Straight answers to the questions people ask most about this topic.
How do you keep unreleased content confidential during tests?
Content plays only on devices we control, at a venue or in a supervised session. Viewers leave phones outside the viewing area and sign a confidentiality note. Files are removed from devices after the session, and access is logged.
Can you research regional-language audiences?
Yes. Interviewers and moderators work in the audience's language, and tools are translated and checked. We set quotas by language and town class so a Bhojpuri or Marathi audience is not merged into a general Hindi or English result.
Are your surveys a replacement for BARC ratings?
No. BARC India produces television audience measurement for the industry. Our research explains viewer choices and experiences through interviews and tests, which complements ratings rather than replacing them.
How quickly can cinema exit interviews be reported?
Exit interviews are short and sync from the app as soon as there is network, so first-weekend results can be shared quickly. We still review location, time and duration before the numbers go into a report.

Share the content, platform or venue and the audience you care about. We will propose a design.
